grumblelacegrumblegrumble

small lace update.

i made it 2.5" into the center chart on the christening shawl this weekend. yay!

today, however, i decided to knit this morning because i got up a little early. i gave myself a certain amount of time to allot to my lace, and i used it all. but made only one row of progress.

when i looked at the project this morning, i thought about sticking in a new lifeline (prompted by rW wondering last night when i would put in another) but then i got cocky and decided not to for a few more rows. bad move.

i messed up the side frame charts. i knit the same row twice and didn't notice until i had already purled back the next row and started a new knit row. without a life line, i could not simply rip. i had to tink* back two whole lace rows of 150+ stitches. i had just enough time left in my allotment to reknit one row.

gah.

*tink = knit spelled backwards. or "unknitting". there. a knitting term f the day for the civilians.

i failed to mention...

i rocki can totally change my own flat tire. this happened on valentines day. i went around all day saying "and people wonder how his girl can possibly stay single!?!" when recounting my victory over the steep hill, lousy car jack, and general lameness of flat tires on cold days.

comments

i have had an up tick in readers since the Knitting Blogs web ring added me last week. this means i have been getting comments from people i don't actually know in walkabout life.

that is wonderful. blogger--it seems--is not so wonderful. i have no way of thanking people or following up because blogger doesn't post emails and for some people they can't even link their blog in the comments.

perhaps this can be fixed next week when i have more time for an in-depth investigation of the bowels of blogger. but, until then... i promise i'm not snooty! just more technology impaired than i thought.

ps- the sweater won. i worked one more full repeat of the lace chart on the sock, but then i worked on the sweater and modified it from my original intent. we are into the third ball of yarn and knitting bellow-the-arms rounds, folks!

yeah!

knitwit

someone is a dumbass.... me! congratulations are in order on my very first truly nice work, dumbass! mistake.

yes, that is right, i put my work down to take a phone call, picked it back up, and began knitting off the wrong needle. so on the right side of the picture, i have three completed rows, while on the left side of the picture i have completed five rows. oh, well.

the good news is that when i slipped the work off the needles and checked my gauge again, i needed to go down a needle size. i started out too loose and got tighter. pooh. i guess it takes the edge off of frogging for my other mistake. i may not cast on again until i get my circulars because i think it will allow me to knit longer.

having the work on my left needle makes that hand tired, and i have a hard time holding the needles for very long. my left ring finger and pinky are a little sad. when i was about 16, i was sewing and not paying enough attention to what i was doing because i was in a hurry (i wanted to wear the skirt i was making to go out that evening) and while snipping threads, i snipped into my ring finger with a big pair of shears. it has never really been the same since. i pulled a similar stunt on my pinky with an x-acto knife in grad school.

the only up side to this is that i can now effortlessly do the vulcan salute with my left hand.
